Nyk Sykes wins Silver in the Fashion Photography Prize
at the London Photographic Association Awards
Nyk Sykes has just been awarded Silver in the Fashion Photography Prize at the London Photographic Association Awards.
This follows on from his success last year in being a Semi-Finalist in the
International Hasselblad Masters Award (Sweden) and having solo-exhibitions
with Michelle7 (USA).
Nyk descrides his winning photo; "The winning image is part of a series inspired by "The Lord of the Rings" film titled "Lady of Middle Earth".
I wanted to explore outside the conventions of fashion and beauty and look more at character and glamour.
The looks were inspired by characters and creatures (both female and male) in the film without referencing individual characters.
I used a single model to express a range of looks from the shyness of the Hobbits to the darkness of Mordor. The winning photo is an evil queen,
the consort of the Dark Lord Sauron".
