CURRICULUM VITAE - MARY WENHOLZ
ARTIST BIO.
1983 Born Sydney, currently lives and works in Sydney
Mary Wenholz is a Sydney based artist who has been exhibiting since 2004. Through her practice Wenholz explores
issues related to the contemporary placement of painting and the relevance of its modernist history. Her large
format paintings, painted on a transparent vinyl ground, incorporate the wall itself into the painting's
composition. In this manner Wenholz explores the materiality of painting and its ability to engage with its
architectural context.
In 2005 Wenholz received a Bachelor of Visual Arts with first class Honours from Sydney College of the Arts,
University of Sydney where she studied under Prof. Brad Buckly, Dr Debra Dawes, Matthys Gerber and Mikala Dwyer.
Wenholz in currently a candidate for Master of Visual Arts, which was also undertaken at Sydney College of the Arts,
University of Sydney. Her MVA research project, entitled 'Painting about Painting: the contemporary expansion of
medium specificity', explores the placement of painting within contemporary art in terms of the materiality of the
medium and its modernist history.
